Jason Kidd gets massive vote of confidence as Luka Doncic, Mavs’ playoff slide continues

While the Dallas Mavericks have struggled and fallen out of playoff and Play-In contention this late in the 2022-23 season, general manager Nico Harrison has not lost his belief on Jason Kidd … at least not yet.

The Mavs have dropped to 11th in the Western Conference amid an ugly slump that saw them go 8-of-17 since the Kyrie Irving trade. A lot of blame has been put on Kidd, with fans even urging the front office to fire him for his poor game management.

Despite their losing skid, however, Harrison emphasized during an interview on the Ben & Skin Show that Kidd is “still the guy,” per Sports Illustrated.

That is definitely a massive vote of confidence for Jason Kidd amid all the anger directed towards him. While a failure to lead the Mavs to the playoffs would definitely raise questions about his job in the offseason, at least he can be sure Nico Harrison and the front office would be considering his overall performance and not only what happened in one season.

As Mavs fans know, Kidd guided the team to the Western Conference Finals in the 2021-22 campaign, during which they eventually lost to the Golden State Warriors.

Dallas is not totally out of playoff contention yet. They are 11th in the West and just one game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, Kidd, Luka Doncic and the rest of the team know very well they don’t have a lot of chances anymore and there’s no room for mistakes moving forward.

If the Mavs fail, Harrison will certainly need to make a lot of tough decisions come the offseason.
