The San Francisco 49ers have thrown their support behind the Transgender community with a positive tweet delivered Friday.

The Niners have made it a point to be inclusive of the Transgender community. There has been some criticism of the gesture because it comes days after a school shooting in Nashville in which the shooter was a transgender individual and three children were shot.
The 49ers potentially reach 2.4 million supporters every time they send out a tweet, and the organization wanted to get the message out that they celebrate and support their transgender fans on an every-day basis.
The criticism came because of the timing of the tweet, but the team’s supporters pointed out that it had nothing to do with recent events in the news. March 31 has been designated as Transgender Day of Visibility by a Presidential proclamation.
After the tweet, an online argument between supporters and detractors followed, but it’s clear that the Niners were just showing their support for the Transgender community. It was a single tweet, and it followed a tweet mentioning Cesar Chavez Day and remembering former 49er star wide receiver John Taylor’s birthday.
The Niners have demonstrated their support for members of the community for years, but the real business of the organization is putting a competitive team that has a chance to win the Super Bowl on the field.
The 49ers are currently preparing for the NFL Draft, which will be held in late April. The Niners were able to reach the NFC title game last season, but they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles after quarterback Brock Purdy was injured in that meeting.
